Step 1: Follow the Tiling Plan Precisely
When you purchase tiles, the seller usually provides a layout plan based on your home's dimensions. This plan is crucial—it helps you precisely place each tile, reduces waste, and ensures a more polished final look. Following the layout not only standardizes the tiling process but also enhances the overall aesthetic of your renovation.
Step 2: Make Good Use of Tile Offcuts
Don’t waste tile scraps! Use offcuts in less noticeable areas, like corners or under cabinets. This minimizes waste and ensures that full, uncut tiles are used in prominent spots, maintaining a seamless appearance.
Step 3: Control Tile Spacing
Large tiles are increasingly popular, and many opt for tight or micro gaps to make the grout lines less noticeable. In southern regions, joints smaller than 1mm are suitable for a smoother effect. However, in northern areas where temperature fluctuations are greater, tighter joints can lead to issues—so a 2mm gap with proper grout is recommended.
Step 4: Level the Surface Before Tiling
No matter the tile size, surface leveling is a must. Uneven walls or floors will affect grout application later, resulting in poor finish or even detachment. Proper leveling ensures a solid, long-lasting installation.
