Complete Guide to Bathroom Waterproofing Heights: Keep Your Home Dry and Healthy!

The bathroom is the most humid area in a home, making waterproofing crucial due to constant water exposure. So, how can you ensure that your bathroom’s waterproofing meets the required standards? First and foremost, understanding the required waterproofing heights for different areas is essential.

Waterproofing Height Standards for Bathroom Walls

According to the National Standard for Residential Decoration and Renovation Construction, the waterproofing height for shower area walls should be at least 180 cm (1.8 meters). In other non-shower areas, the waterproofing height should not be less than 30 cm.

Since most showerheads are installed at around 1.8 meters, the waterproofing height for the shower area and adjacent walls should meet this standard to prevent moisture penetration. If the waterproofing is insufficient, prolonged exposure to water can cause wall dampness, mold growth, and peeling paint.

For bathroom walls built with lightweight bricks, the waterproofing should extend from the floor to the ceiling. Lightweight bricks have larger pores and higher water absorption, making them more susceptible to moisture damage. Without proper waterproofing, water vapor can seep in, accelerating mold growth and peeling, which increases maintenance difficulty.

Waterproofing Requirements Around Sinks and Bathtubs

The areas around sinks and bathtubs where they meet the wall also require proper waterproofing. The waterproof layer should start from the floor and extend at least 30 cm above the sink to prevent water vapor from seeping into the walls.

Additionally, for pipes that pass through the floor (such as drainage and water supply pipes), waterproofing should extend approximately 10 cm above the pipe’s base to prevent moisture from penetrating the floor slab.

Conclusion

By understanding the recommended waterproofing heights for different bathroom areas, you can effectively prevent wall mold, peeling, and structural damage, ensuring a longer lifespan for your bathroom. Proper waterproofing leads to a healthier home environment and a more comfortable living space for your family.
