Large-format tiles are typically large-glazed tiles with a dense surface and low water absorption rate. Their size can reach up to 900×1800mm, making them more challenging to lay compared to ordinary tiles. How should you proceed with the installation?
To make it easier for people to understand how to lay large-format tiles, here are some simplified and optimized steps:
1. Clean the base surface to ensure it is flat and free of sharp objects.
2. Perform screeding and check that the flatness error is less than 3mm/2㎡.
3. Use tile suction cups to fix the large-format tile, gently turn it over to the back, or use a special tile protection and moving bracket and wait for installation.
4. Mix the tile adhesive thoroughly, let it sit for 10 minutes, then stir again for 2-3 minutes.
5. Use a notched trowel to apply the adhesive on the base surface, combing it into notches at a 45-degree angle.
6. Move the large-format tile onto the base surface, use a levelling tool to adjust the angle, and ensure proper spacing between tiles.
7. Use a flat vibrator to adjust the surface material to ensure it is flat and the adhesive is fully spread between the large-format tile and the base surface.
8. Scrape off the excess adhesive, trim the edges, and perform an initial cleaning of the tile surface.
9. Allow it to cure naturally for 7-14 days. Once the tile adhesive is dry, the installation is complete.
These steps should help you effectively lay large-format tiles and achieve a professional finish.
